Maximus Stop the Union-Busting
Bruce Caswell, Maximus CEO

We are essential employees under the ACA and Medicare contracts, yet we are forced into an undeserving situation every single day because of our low pay and expensive health care coverage that leave us unable to pay our bills or get ourselves the care we need. That is a stark choice that we, as employees of a government-contracted company, have to make routinely. It is profoundly disheartening when a hard working government contracted employee has to choose between basic necessities and go without basic needs in the richest country in the world. We are organizing a union with CWA to change that. The establishment of a union could rewrite this dismal narrative. We are collectively raising our voices to negotiate better healthcare, a livable wage, and more job security. These core essentials are not a luxury, but a right that every worker deserves!
While we were happy to finally see that our CEO visited our workplace, it was unfortunate that you used this opportunity to try and dissuade us and our coworkers from continuing to organize. We are particularly disgusted that you went on local news and tried to scare our community by saying our call center could be shut down. Enough of the scare tactics! Many of us have worked under this contract for many different companies. Maximus can also easily continue to be the CMS' contractor for 1-800-Medicare and Marketplace if they agree to the Labor Harmony provision that the Department of Health and Human Services requires. However, it seems you would rather speak on local news stations about potential site closures, keep up the anti-union campaign, and put Maximus’ $6.6 billion dollar contract at risk. What, Mr. Caswell, is preventing you from rebidding on the CCO contract? If you want to raise our wages, the easiest way to do that is to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement with us and our union. If higher wages are part of a collective bargaining agreement, then the federal government will cover the increased wages at no cost to the company.
Enough is enough - we need your anti-union emails and meetings to stop. It’s a waste of our valuable time and the resources that we should be using to benefit our fellow Americans seeking to access affordable health coverage.
- A living wage of at minimum $25 an hour
- Affordable health care for ourselves and our families;
- Real job security, including adequate notice of 60 days or more of lay-offs and a fair severance package;
- Flexibility for leave time beyond PTO, including time off for part-time workers experiencing a medical event such as emergency or having a child, Same day ATO, 10 sick days per year for all workers, and
- The right to organize for a union, better pay and working conditions without the fear of intimidation from our employer.

No matter what you do or who the CCO contractor is in the future, we will continue to demand:

Real job security, including adequate notice of 60 days or more of lay-offs and a fair severance package;
Flexibility for leave time beyond PTO, including time off for part-time workers experiencing a medical event such as emergency or having a child, Same day ATO, 10 sick days per year for all workers, and
