Are you an experienced, hardworking VZW union member looking to become a leader in your workplace? Become a CWA Local 1109 Shop Steward and gain the skills and knowledge you need to become a powerful advocate for your coworkers!

The training offers development opportunities to give passionate union members the skills they need to represent their peers, take positive action in the workplace, and become a strong advocate for the rights of their fellow workers and improve working conditions for all!

Being a Shop Steward is for those who want to make a positive, lasting impact on their workplace and gain valuable experience as a leader and union representative.

The training focuses on providing members the tools necessary to learn how to:

• Identify workplace issues
• Provide advice and guidance to other members
• Coordinate/communicate with Union leadership and management
• Negotiate changes in the workplace, and use conflict resolution strategies.

Stewards will motivate their coworkers to take collective action, build community and solidarity between members. You will have the opportunity to work with experienced organizers to develop customized strategies for your particular workplace.

TO BECOME A SHOP STEWARD:

• You must have a strong commitment to your peers.
• You must have good communication skills.
• You must be willing to take on a leadership role and be willing to be taken off the job to do this work.
• You'll need to be able to travel by air or car.

AS A STEWARD, YOU WILL:

• Be trained on the CWA Organizing model by a seasoned organizer.
• Meet and help organize non-union wireless workers.
• Connect with CWA members who have friends or family that work in non-union wireless companies.
